Motorsport UK Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship

In recent days there have been more developments that have impacted upon the planned championship 2020 calendar and changes outside of the sport in relation to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Friday's cancellation of the Woodpecker Stages, plus the recent announcements from Rally North Wales and Rallynuts Stages, have seen the number of scoring rounds within the championship dramatically reduced.

We now feel, as the championship promoters, that, with only a maximum of three possible rounds being run in 2020, we are unable to fulfil a worthwhile series and to crown a worthy champion.  With this in mind we have taken the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Motorsport UK Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship in association with Ravenol UK with immediate effect.

Both the remaining events, that were to be the final rounds of 2020, the Winner Garage Skoda Wyedean Stages October 17th and the rescheduled Nicky Grist Stages November 28th, are progressing with their preparations within the government guidelines, imposed by COVID 19. We would like to wish both events every success and ask championship registered crews to support both rallies if possible.

The championship promoters would like to announce that entries will be rolled over to the 2021 championship for those of you who registered in 2020.

The plans for the 2021 championship are now well advanced, and we will have some new and very exciting announcements for next year in due course.

We also would like to take this opportunity to thank Motorsport UK, the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs, all our stake holders, our sponsors Pirelli, Ravenol UK, Restruct and ONTHEPACENOTE.co.uk.  The team at Special Stage, Howard Davies and all event organising teams, during what very difficult and unprecedented times for all concerned.

Finally, I ask you all to take a moment to remember the 40,000+ lives COVID 19 have taken here in the UK at the present time, some of whom were friends and colleagues from the World of Motorsport. They will be sorely missed by us all and this puts things very much in perspective. Stay safe everyone and we will keep you updated with news and developments as and when we can.
